Children's Hearts Bring Warmth to the Elderly — A Record of WFLPS International Division Teachers and Students Celebrating Double Ninth Festival with Elders in the Community
Autumn deepens, osmanthus fragrance fills the paths—this year the blossoms are especially sweet. Teachers, students, and parent volunteers from the International Division of WFLPS visited the community committee to celebrate the Double Ninth Festival with the elders. This marks the fifth consecutive year that WFLPS has entered the community to spend time with senior residents. Students presented calligraphy works created in their classes—every stroke and line conveying heartfelt sincerity. This companionship across generations has long become the warmest tradition of autumn.
During the talent show, Aimee's bamboo flute solo "The White Lady Beneath Qingcheng Mountain" flowed with a melodious tune, evoking fond memories among the elders; Melanie recited "Colorful China" in a tender, sweet child's voice, clear and touching; after the song "A Little Bliss," warmth filled the room. A grandmother, brimming with enthusiasm, invited young singer Alina to join her in singing "My Motherland and I," voices and laughter intertwining.
Young reporters chatted with the grandparents—from songs of their youth to favorite home-cooked dishes, from convenient transportation to community care. The students listened attentively as the elders recounted their stories. This is a vivid practice of the IB philosophy of "caring and principled."
Mothers from the parent committee carefully prepared gifts, and the students presented them with both hands, greeting "Grandpa and Grandma, happy Double Ninth Festival," bringing bright smiles to the elders' faces.
"As we care for our own elders, we extend that care to all elders." Five years of perseverance, one original aspiration. "Do not say the evening of life is late—the sunset clouds still light up the sky." May every grandpa and grandma enjoy health and longevity this Double Ninth Festival; may this childlike innocence and warmth be passed on year after year, warming the hearts of the elders and brightening the path of the children's growth.
